The investment comes from the Coalfields Enterprise Fund, one of four programmes ran by Enterprise Ventures (EV), the North of England-based venture capital company.
Student Resources were founded in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, and helps colleges to train their staff and make the most of their skills budgets.
Adrian Oldfield, chief executive at Student Resources, said: “I am pleased to have the support of Enterprise Ventures in developing the business and welcome them as an investor.
“I am delighted that we can now implement our plans to develop the business into a leading player within our sector.
“When we were introduced to the investment team at EV, they immediately saw the potential in our business and made us an attractive offer.
“We are already benefiting from the strategic advice and support which EV has started to bring to our relationship.”
Wayne Thomas, investment director at EV, added: “The company has an extremely strong and focussed management team, who we believe are capable of achieving what they have set out to do.
“EV completed an in depth commercial review of the market opportunity which was very supportive of management’s views and the potential for the business.
“We are very confident that Student Resource’s success will bring considerable benefit to the local area, supporting the remit of the Coalfields Enterprise Fund.”
