The company, which received an undisclosed sum from SEGF, provide platforms for websites and WAP sites used by mobile users.

Cube 80 enables its clients to provide download services to consumers for e-goods such as music, ringtones and pictures, as well as providing facilities for payment.

The funding will be used to further the company’s expansion across both the UK and North America.

David Fisher, who led the funding round for SEGF, said: “We have known them for a few years since they first started, and they approached us last spring looking for funding.

“We felt they had a great management team and operate in an interesting space in the market.

“This is also an area where Europe actually leads American, which is nice for a change.”

Cube 80 was founded in 2001 and is led by chief executive officer Ian Briscoe, a serial entrepreneur who has been active in wireless communications since the mid-1990s.

The company was advised on the deal by Roger Bailey of law firm Blatch and Moore.

SEGF was advised by Vincent O’Brien, from DMH Stallard.
