It has been revealed that Trade minister Digby Jones is expected to quit before the next general election.

According to a report in The Guardian, Digby Jones told a private meeting of business leaders that he intends to stand down well before polling day as he didn’t want to be asked whether he is supporting Gordon Brown.

The Tories alleged that news of the minister’s plans was evidence of his lack of confidence in the prime minister.

However, Lord Jones issued a statement denying he was planning to quit in the near future and saying that Brown had his full support. “I am 100% committed to this job and to the prime minister. I am a supporter of Gordon Brown and believe in what he is doing.”
