A rose by any other name would still smell as sweet, the Bard famously penned. But what if that rose had no customers? Would it matter if it smelled good then?
A poll, by More Th>n Business Insurance, revealing Britain’s most creative business names has thrown up some real corkers, but also highlighted just how important it is for you to pick the right name for your start-up. It could make all the difference, and offers a great starting point for you to base your marketing campaign on.
Apparently, one in four people say a clever business name is enough to make them stop and have a closer look. Even if it’s cheesy, a lá ‘Sarnie Schwarzenegger’s’ sandwich shop, the point is, being noticed is half the battle won.
Another thing the poll drew attention to is just how creative you cleaning entrepreneurs are. There were no less than four cleaning businesses in the top twenty. ‘Mr Bit’ came in fourth overall. It’s short and sweet, takes a while to grasp, but very rewarding when you get it! And how about ‘Spruce Springclean’?
Slightly disappointing though, was ‘Battersea Cods Home’, which I’m sure I don’t need to point out is a fish and chip shop. I wouldn’t mind if it was actually in Battersea, but it just seems like cheating when you find out it’s in Sheffield.
You don’t have to use a pun to achieve a memorable name of course, but if you’re in an industry where it’s hard to market your unique selling point, it may just help you stand out from the crowd, as I’m sure William the Concreter would agree.
