A social networking site for businesses was launched yesterday, as part of a new range of on-demand and social media services targeted at small firms.
Dubbed the ‘MySpace for the business world’, BT Tradespace, launched by BT Business, offers firms a platform for networking through blogging, sharing photos and podcasting.
According to BT Business, Tradespace, which is free to use and allows businesses to easily post content online, will unite small businesses with both potential customers and partners to do business.
The new suite of services offered by BT Business, which were showcased at a high profile launch yesterday, also includes the Business Applications Marketplace, an independent software vendor (ISV) developer programme that delivers software on demand to small businesses.
Bill Murphy, managing director of BT Business, said: “Small businesses are becoming more and more savvy when it comes to technology, but they don’t have the resources to invest in the way larger companies can.
“We are providing entrepreneurs and growing companies, through Tradespace and the Applications Marketplace, with cost-effective and successful ways of using communications and business tools without paying the earth for them.
“This will allow them to compete amongst much bigger players, levelling the playing field with the smarter use of IT and communications technology.”
Commenting on the new services, Sarah Beeny, entrepreneur and presenter of Channel 4 show Property Ladder, added: “Being able to link complementary services will help traders work together to extend the scope of the offerings they provide”.
The BT Business ‘Essence of the Entrepreneur’ competition, a campaign to find the top 20 entrepreneurs in the UK who are using technology to grow their businesses, was also launched at the event yesterday.
