A competition to find the top 20 entrepreneurs in the UK has been launched by BT Business.

The BT Business Essence of the Entrepreneur campaign will award 20 UK entrepreneurs who are driving their companies’ growth and performance through their innovative use of technology.

The judges will also be dishing out special accolades for the best male, best female and best young entrepreneurs, along with the most original business concept.

For the first time they will also name an overall winner. The Outstanding Entrepreneur of the Year will walk away with a £20,000 business grant from BT Business.

All 20 winners will then have the ‘essence’ of their business captured on camera by world-renowned photographer Rankin. The images will then be showcased at an exhibition in January 2009.

Bill Murphy, managing director of BT Business described small and medium sized businesses as the “lifeblood” of the UK economy.

“They account for 99.9% of businesses and 40% of the UK’s turnover. We want to help and encourage them to succeed, applaud their determination and celebrate their spirit,” said Murphy.

If you think you’ve got what it takes apply online at www.bt.com/entrepreneur where you will also find case studies of winners from previous years including Jennifer Irvine (The Pure Package) and Kerrie Keeling (A Woman’s Touch).
