Microsoft has expanded its Startup Accelerator Programme by adding a further five companies to the list of beneficiaries.

The Microsoft scheme, which was launched in October 2007 by chief executive officer Steve Ballmer, provides leading-edge technology start-ups with a range of personalised support services and technical guidance.

The second round of companies to join the programme include Suffolk-based real-time voice and video communications specialist Psytechnics; intelligent financial planning solution provider Rugged Logic and new media company T5M.com which collates exclusive interviews from figures in the public eye. Another new addition, SportsDo.net uses GPS technology to track the route of runners, cyclists and skiers.

Charlie Muirhead, chief executive officer of new addition T5M.com, says that the advice from Microsoft has been invaluable, not just from a technology perspective but says he has also been picking up business hints from the software titan.

“Technical support through products like Microsoft Silverlight has been important but being able to tap into Microsoft’s business expertise, such as its experience in online advertising, is something that I think can add even more value to our business proposition.”
