Almost one in seven website searches is now carried out on a mobile phone, according to a new survey.
The quarterly report from Latitude Digital Marketing found that 15% of all search queries are now entered into mobile devices – more than double the number last year.
The researchers also found that paid searches from mobile and tablet devices continued to rise. While 7% of all paid search clicks were attributable to smartphones, 3% came from tablets.
Furthermore, the report claims that 30 million British people will access the internet from their mobile phones by the end of next year – and retailers will see record numbers of mobile transactions in the fourth quarter of 2011.
Alex Hoye, CEO of Latitude, said: “With the number of UK mobile web users anticipated to reach 30 million in 2012, what we are seeing in Q3 is merely just a sign of things to come.
“User adoption of mobile search is exceeding advertiser’s adoption of the channel, giving those targeting mobile a cost advantage.”
