Businesses outside London and the south east are proving more attractive as a place to work than the UK capital, according to a new YouGov survey.

Research found that nearly two-thirds (61%) of employees think that their closest city is a better business location than London.

According to the report the majority (80%) of British workers are happy with where they work and are satisfied with the quality of their workplace, with less than a fifth dissatisfied (19%).

Neil Darwin, director of Economic Development at Opportunity Peterborough, who commissioned the survey, said:“Traditionally London has been seen as the centre of business, but regional development initiatives, regeneration programmes and improvements in remote working technology have all combined to give greater opportunity to Britain’s other regional cities.”

The survey also dispels the myth that Britons hate Monday mornings. Almost three-quarters (72%) of those who have a workplace said they feel ready going into work on a Monday (of which 28% feel motivated and ready, and 44% feel reluctant, but ready). Only 14% admit to feeling tired and de-motivated, and just 6% resent going in or feel disinterested.

The main complaint British workers have is the distance between home and where they work, as just over a quarter (26%) would most like to work somewhere closer to where they live.
