UK businesses must make sure staff are aware of benefits packages, including perks such as pensions and healthcare, in order to ensure they retain key personnel, new research from JLT Benefit Solutions has found.

According to the research, 55% of respondent organisations communicate benefits to their employees less than once a month. A substantial proportion – over a quarter – admitted to only communicating benefits on an annual or even ad hoc basis.

The disconnect between employers and employees means that bosses are not taking advantage of benefit schemes as a way of incentivising staff. While two thirds claim to be constantly looking at ways of communicating benefits more effectively to staff, these methods are not always successful.

Jon Bryant, regional director at JLT Benefit Solutions said that offering a decent benefit package is crucial. “There is a great deal to be gained from corporate benefit programmes and in today’s uncertain economic climate, senior executives should ignore their benefits portfolio at their peril.”
