Software provider Patersons HR & Payroll Solutions scored a hat-trick at the Fast Growth Business Awards in London this week.
The company, founded by Karen Paterson in 1996, was crowned T-Mobile Fast Growth Business of the Year at a ceremony presented by BBC journalist Adam Shaw.
Patersons offers payroll and HR software on a SaaS (software as a service) model. Its flagship product, Logon2, is available in 30 languages and more than 160 countries.
As well as walking away with the overall prize, the company was crowned international business of the year, while founder Karen Paterson was named Female Entrepreneur of the Year.
The company fought off competition from Wonga, which won both the Best Use of Technology and Angel or VC-backed Business of the Year categories, and Jaotech, which won Product Business of the Year, for the overall prize.
Other winners on the night included Shortlist Media, publisher of the popular ShortList and Sylist magazines, which walked away with the Innovative Business of the Year prize; Team24, which won the Family Business of the Year category, Comtek Network Systems, the Green Business of the Year, and Naked Wines, which was tipped as the New Business of the Year.
James Hurley, editor of Growing Business magazine, was one of the judges for the awards and noted the quality of the finalists.
He said: “Despite the incredibly tough trading environment these companies were operating in, finding high quality, fast growing businesses wasn’t any harder this year.
“In fact, the quality of the entries was arguably the highest we’ve seen in four years of running the awards. That made the judging process extremely tough so all of the winners should be applauded on achieving something remarkable.
“I’d particularly like to congratulate Patersons HR & Payroll Solutions on winning the overall prize and wish the business every success with its global expansion plans.”
This is the fourth time the FGBA has recognised the best businesses in the UK. Previous winners have been King of Shaves, Maximuscle and LoveFilm.
