The majority of HR managers believe their company’s training does not adequately equip staff with the skills they need for business, it has been claimed.
According to a survey by web applications firm WebEx, more than three quarters of HR managers thought that training in their company was inadequate and failed to provide employees with the skills needed to succeed in the business world.
The research revealed that the most ineffective training is being delivered in management and communication skills, which falls short in 29% of UK businesses.
This is closely followed by training in computer skills, which is lacking in 28% of businesses.
Commenting on the findings, Bert van der Zwan, vice president at EMEA, WebEx, said: “The UK labour market is highly competitive.
“If businesses want to retain and develop their employees to their full potential, it’s crucial that they get areas such as training right.”
In addition, the research found that 83% of HR managers believe e-learning could improve training yet over half don’t use it, mainly because they are phased by the technology requirements.
“UK companies are missing a huge opportunity when it comes to training,” added van der Zwan.
“They’re failing to take advantage of e-learning’s time, productivity and efficiency benefits, all because technology is seen as a barrier to implementation.”
