Business minister Mark Prisk has launched a new training tool to equip seasoned business people with the skills to mentor young entrepreneurs.

The tool is a key part of the Get Mentoring scheme, which aims to supply 15,000 trained and qualified mentors for the government’s business advice service, mentorsme.co.uk.

Available at www.getmentoring.org, the training aid is provided by the Small Firms Enterprise Development Initiative (SFEDI) and backed by a range of industry bodies, the Forum of Private Business (FPB) and the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB).

Prisk said: “This training tool is vital to help build our growing network of trained mentors.

“Mentoring is a very effective way for aspiring entrepreneurs to get the help and support they need to succeed. It enables business people to harness the knowledge and expertise of those who have been there and done it before.

“I would encourage business people of all ages and backgrounds to get involved in mentoring as it really can help to give a new or growing business a boost in their development.”
