Sarah McVittie, founder of the innovative mobile Q&A business Texperts, has sold her company to kgb the directory service 118 118.
McVittie’s business, seen as some as the bane of pub quizzes, enables knowledge thirsty members of the public to text in general knowledge questions to its service and receive answers back in minutes.
The service proved a hit with users and came to the attention of the New York-based business, which is the world’s largest independent provider of directory services.
“Texperts is a perfect strategic fit for kgb as we continue to grow our SMS mobile find businesses across Europe and North America,” said chief executive Bruce Stewart.
“With their innovative software platform and industry experience, Texperts will enable us to serve our millions of customers better.”
Texperts were advised by First Capital, the technology investment bank, on the deal, the exact value of which was undisclosed. However, in a bid to find out and also to test the efficacy of the service, a Growing Business reporter texted 118 118 with the question: ‘How much did 118 pay for Texperts?’
In a text message, the company replied: “For that, please call our Press Office through 118 118, or call 08702701258. thx.”
