A company which produces software that enables TV viewers to watch their favourite programmes from mobile phones and laptops has received £600,000.

Inxstor has been backed by AIM-listed investor Braveheart to commercialise its ‘place-shifting’ product, which allows users to record a programme and then watch it wherever they are.

The company has developed products which provide a full end-to-end solution, including software to access and transfer content from the home to a mobile device.

Currently, the market only offers ‘time-shifting’ services, where shows can be viewed later in the home, however Inxstor’s offering is intended as an advancement on this and is believed to be the first of its kind.

Inxstor was formed last year as a spin-out from Infinite Data Storage (IDS), another Braveheart-backed company.

It then received £400,000 of seed funding from Braveheart and Scottish Co-investment Fund which has brought it to the point where it now wants to begin selling.

Tony Combe, chief executive officer at Inxstor, said: “Since spinning out from IDS, we have made good progress in the development of our technology.

“Content providers need to know that their data is secure and that distribution can be controlled – our technology addresses these key issues.

“We now have working prototypes and we are in discussions with a number of multi-
nationals about rolling out the product.”
