Two thirds of business people admit to not doing enough exercise, finds new research.

The study of over 1000 UK workers, commissioned by Siemens, found that half of the respondents rarely do any kind of exercise, with almost 30% of female employees doing no exercise at all and less than a third doing the recommended three exercise sessions a week.

Female statistics are almost equal to men’s, with 32% of men admitting they fail to do any exercise on a regular basis either.

However, the importance of regular exercise is something many people are already aware of. Four out of five respondents agreed that exercise would help to reduce their stress levels, with 69% of women and 62% of men blaming hectic lifestyles on their lack of time for working out.

This is bad news both inside and outside the office. Lack of exercise is associated with increased stress and sickness levels, which creates poorer performance, concentration and productivity within the workplace.

Teresa Frost, head of talent management at Siemens, was keen to point out the importance of keeping active.

“An estimated 2.3 million people suffer from ill-health caused by work-related stress each year.”

She added, “We would encourage everyone to find more time in their week to take exercise.”
