The world’s leading digital music and content technology platform co-founded by 2006 Young Gun Ben Drury, has secured a $10m investment from strategic technology partners.
The latest investment coincides with a new contract with partners RIM, which sees 7digital named as the official music download provider for the BlackBerry® 10 smartphones, due to be launched in 2013.
Founded in 2004, 7digital enables customers to access over 22 million music tracks through the company’s website and mobile applications across Europe and North America.
With partners including Samsung, RIM and HTC, 7digital has experienced a 400% year-on-year increase in the usage of its application programming interface (API), which enables developers to use and license the 7digital technology platform.
Following the latest finance instalment from unnamed strategic technology partners, 7digital plans to expand beyond music downloads, to add on-demand streaming, radio and scan and match products to its services.
Drury is confident that the growth plans, which include expansion into new locations across Europe and North America, will turn seven digital into a “truly open music platform”.
He commented, “We’ve seen phenomenal growth over the last 12 months across the 7digital open platform with millions of users across the globe using our services and hundreds of partners actively using our technology.
“The new capabilities will make 7digital the truly open music platform that provides access to the world’s music.”
